Flight of the conchords steve
Martin’s character in Roxanne is such a great example of male fragility.
Flight of the conchords steve movie#
Roxanne is probably the second best movie he’s written, after LA Story which is incredible. No book I’ve read has so perfectly captured the lonely malaise of depression like that book did. Steve Martin is a hero of mine and the book Chris mentions Born Standing Up is one of the greatest things I’ve ever read. Oh man, Steve Martin, Flight of the Conchords, and Batman and Robin? This is MY week!
If only I had combined the shrooms with Batman & Robin, I would have had much fonder memories of that film I haven’t taken any drugs since 2007 so that night kicked off a decade of wild experimentation that I do not regret. This was not funny to my friend but it remains funny to me.
Later that night we tried to smoke weed (another first for me) and I laughed while trying to use the bong so I splashed water everywhere. Letters to the Editor, advertisements, random sentences we read aloud…literally everything was hilarious. We took mushrooms and spent hours laughing at everything in my friend’s bedroom, especially his EGM collection which now made zero sense. I already new B&R was bad, I saw it a couple nights early. I took the night off from the movie theater. And since I wasn’t 21 yet, it was also the first time I was under any influence of any substance ever. transplant who has our own Justin Kase as her DJ.As infamously disappointing as Batman & Robin was, Jis a red letter day in my life because it was the first night I ever did drugs. It includes a few names that seem a little out-of-place at first glance: the Submarines, Metric, Janell Monae, Chairlift and Ke$ha…. Lilith Fair is making a comeback next year and the lineup is rather interesting. I’m quite sure we haven’t seen the last of Jemaine and Brett, however, and I look forward to seeing what they do next. Flight of the Conchords is officially dead. Some sad news came from Stereogum and Pitchfork today. For a better review of the show, check out the Cream. Of course, Apollo Up! was awesome and Jay Leo Phillips’ guitar tone peeled my scalp as always. To whet your appetite, here’s She’s A Company Man from their debut album Trouble Eyes. It’s true, their overall sound is pretty similar to a lot of garage-y 60’s and 70’s revivalists currently flooding the market, but something about them just really clicked with me. Try as I might, I find it very hard to describe exactly why I liked them so much… I just did. As I enthusiastically told the band after their show, it’s been a LONG-ASS time since I’ve seen a band that I knew nothing about and was totally amazed. Thank goodness Minneapolis’ Private Dancer was up next. My enthusiasm was somewhat stifled by the first band which had a name too long to remember and sounded like Warped Tour circa 1999. Last friday night at the 5 Spot was the first Apollo Up! show in many years, and I showed up ready for some serious mid-aughts nostalgia. Yes, Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, and Jemaine Clement all together on the screen, and Clement plays the villian, nonetheless! Sign me up! Matt also did a video for this new song, which will premier on MTVU on June 10th.Īnother thing that made me very happy today was hearing that one of our favorite New Zealand pop culture imports, Jemaine Clement of Flight of the Conchords, is working on not one, but TWO new movies. Somewhere down the road, hopefully sooner than later, there will be a new album as well. (Screw iTunes and their DRM files!) Seriously, this is the most exciting day in many, many years for sElf fans. In other words, perfect for right now, so go buy it on Amazon NOW. This song is a light, fun, minimal production and bring to mind warm summer mornings.
Flight of the conchords steve update#
Matt announced the update through the sElf myspace, facebook, and twitter today. That’s why I’m jumping up and down with joy that he’s finally released a new track, “Could You Love Me Now?”. It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the band sElf, and the mastermind behind the project, Matt Mahaffey.
